The 2025 Grammy for Best Reggae Album went to Bob Marley: One Love – Music Inspired By the Film.
The movie soundtrack picked up another Grammy win for the Marley family at the 67th annual Grammy Awards on Sunday (February 2) at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. The Best Reggae Album category is among the categories announced during the pre-show ceremony ahead of the main event starting at 8 p.m. EST.
The Bob Marley: One Love beat out stiff competition from Vybz Kartel (Party With Me), Shenseea (Never Gets Late Here), The Wailers (Evolution), and Collie Buddz (Take It Easy). Both Vybz Kartel and Shenseea received their first solo Grammy nominations last year. They were the only dancehall artists in the mix, highlighting that traditional reggae music is still strong on the global stage.
The Grammy-winning album was released in February 2024 and features covers of some of Bob Marley’s classic songs, including “Waiting in Vain,” “Is This Love,” “Redemption Song,” “One Love,” “Three Little Birds,” “Natural Mystic,” and “Exodus.” The album features guest appearances from Wizkid, Bloody Civilian, Shenseea, Jessie Reyez, Mystic Marley, Daniel Caesar, Kacey Musgraves, Farruko, and Bob’s grandson, Skip Marley.
The movie Bob Marley: One Love, by Paramount Pictures, was a massive success at the Box Office, grossing $180.8 million worldwide and $96.9 million in the United States and Canada, making it one of the most successful biopics in history. The film was starred by Kingsley Ben-Adir as Bob Marley and Lashana Lynch as Rita Marley.
The movie chronicles Bob Marley’s rise to fame in the 1970s, an era that was also tumultuous for the legendary singer and Jamaica. His survival of an attempted assassination saw him flee to the United Kingdom, where he eventually recorded the iconic Exodus album and returned to Jamaica as a hero.
Bob, real name Robert Nesta Marley, died on May 11, 1981, from his battle with cancer.
